Planning starts for a new Cancer and Wellness Centre in Echuca

20 May 2019

Echuca Regional Health and the Campaspe and Murray River communities will soon benefit from a new lifesaving Cancer and Wellness Centre funded by the Victorian Government.

The new $6 million centre will provide improved chemotherapy and dialysis services, easier patient access to specialist consultations and a more efficient working environment for medical professionals, all conveniently located under one roof.

"Echuca cancer patients deserve access to the very best care, without having to travel long distances to get the care they need, when they need it," says Minister for Health, Jenny Mikakos. "That’s exactly what this modern facility will deliver. It means more patients treated, and better, safer care."

Updated chemotherapy bays, more consulting rooms and co-located treatment bays to maximize staffing efficiencies are all part of the planned redesign and upgrade, as well as wellness programs to help improve the health and wellbeing of cancer patients.

Still in the planning phase, the new centre is expected to increase capacity to treat more cancer and dialysis patients every year.

"I am delighted to get to the stage of calling for architects to design the new Cancer and Wellness Centre," adds John Quirk, Board President, Echuca Regional Health. "This is a great day for Echuca and the surrounding community."

Expressions of Interest for a principal consultant to design the facility commence in May 2019.
